Self-Help replaced spirituality, but leaves us wanting more

Religion used to be the way we connected with our spirituality, it was the roadmap (however misguided it was) to get to ‘god’. So many of us have moved away from religion and all that it represents — the patriarch and their limiting rules, the perfection model where we get punished if we aren’t doing everything ‘right,' ways to connect with spirit that are disconnected from nature and our daily experiences, not to mention the gatekeeping that made us have to have a middle man to connect and get permission.

And in the craving of connecting to something bigger than ourselves, something magical and kind and caring, something that will support us in our tough times; self-help stepped in to fill the void religion left behind.

I personally feel like a lot of the self-help movement picked up right where religion left off, and created the same dynamics. I have read books on the Akashic records saying that you have to say this one specific paragraph in order to access the records, and if you don’t you can’t. (Not true by the way, it is your personal library, that your soul always has permission to access!).  I have practiced a bunch of self-help based things and they always hint towards how much you or someone in your life sucks, and how you have to do the work to fix it or else… (your life will keep sucking, you won’t get what you want in life etc etc). Even the spiritual/woo-woo practices that promise manifesting your dreams and desires, have rules that you have to follow and if you don’t get what you want, the blame rests back on your shoulders and how you didn’t do it perfectly or have to do more work somewhere specific or are being blocked somehow.

There are threads of truth in all of these things and that’s what keeps us coming back again and again. Trying to find all the threads to be able to weave a tapestry of our beliefs and our practices that actually keep us nourished and supported. They offer quick sugary fixes that feel like they are doing something, so we try and try again seeing if we can make it stick, and make it work in the long run.

Eventually, we become just as disillusioned or disappointed either in ourselves (very common) or in the work we have been trying to do (happens a little bit less, because we tend to believe the lies they have fed us, that we are the problem) and then we look for more, we look for the next book, the next trend, the next thing. And around the circle we go.

Please know, that there are a lot of great practices, advice and cool things out there that you have done, there is value in the work that you have done, and it was all worth it to get you to this point right here, right now.

You aren’t a problem that needs to be fixed.

You are a unique soul that needs to be expressed.

Your soul has experienced lifetimes, your wisdom is vast and filled with wonderment, you are in this life for a reason and that is important for you to uncover for yourself to live an aligned and magical life that makes sense for you.

Spiritual deepening is a way that your soul gets to express itself to you.

Intuition is how you hear your spirit team and your souls wisdom
Energy is how you feel it
Spirituality is how you embody and amplify it.

The other challenges I find with the self-help and wellness movements are that they come from people who haven’t really sat in their work. They have taken weekend courses and then regurgitated what they learned and offered it out to the world without sitting in reverence with it. Without researching and experiencing all the facets of what they are offering. They also learn it from someone else, who learned it from someone else, and so on; so we get a watered down version of something that started off quite lovely and helpful, that now has missing elements, once again, leave us wanting more.

When most people don’t have the time, energy or capacity to deep dive into a practice, a ritual, a teaching etc, what do we do?

Make choices:

You can choose one thing that really speaks to your soul and focus on that, read books about it, sit in meditation with it, get curious about it and ask yourself questions about it, find someone who talks about that thing and get support with it, work with your guides to deepen your understanding of it.

You can find someone (hi! I am that someone) who has over 20 years of experience doing work like this. Who has dedicated their life to the deep diving exploration of spirituality, intuition and magical things and will support you in connecting you to your souls wisdom, your spirit team, and the joy that comes from connecting with the magic this world has to offer, if you know where to find it; and work with them (I am one of many, by the way, choose whoever your soul says yes to!)

I do the hard time consuming work, the exploration and experimentation, the channelled guidance from the Gs, reading extensively, meditating daily, practicing the practice. All so you don’t have to waste your time, effort and energy, when you have so little to spare. I make this work accessible, sensical, and fun so you, your soul and the universe all become loving friends.

Seasons & Cycles is the quarterly subscription that does all of this for you.
